Collection: Jacques Herbin
Founded in 1670 as La Societe Herbin, Maitre Cirier a Paris, Jacques Herbin has a distinguished history intertwined with the cultural fabric of France, with clients spanning from Louis XIV to Coco Chanel. Known for its superior sealing wax and innovative ink formulas, Herbin’s unique lacquer-based wax improved seal adhesion and precision, gaining widespread acclaim across the kingdom. The original J. Herbin, a sailor, brought ink and wax formulas from his journeys to India, creating what would become the world’s oldest pen ink brand. In 1700, Herbin launched La Perle des Encres ("The Jewel of Inks"), followed by custom creations for figures like Victor Hugo. By 1798, the business moved to Paris’s Rue des Fosses-Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois and continued innovating with the development of India Ink in 1829 and signature student inks in the Third Republic. Now part of Exacompta Clairefontaine, Jacques Herbin remains dedicated to tradition, producing artisanal inks and writing accessories, finished by hand in Paris.
